Discover the "Decoding Korea" Exhibition at the Grand Palais Immersif

Categories : Exhibition, published on : 8/8/24

Dreaming of traveling to the other side of the world without leaving the City of Light? The "Decoding Korea" exhibition at the Grand Palais Immersif transports you directly to the heart of modern Korea.

Through the work of ten Korean digital artists and precious archival videos, you can explore the culture of modern Korea from an artistic, historical, and philosophical perspective. The selection of works and documents will help you decode contemporary Korean values and structures. The three pillars of the exhibition – memory, technology, and environment – connect the fascinating past of this country with its technological evolution and futuristic vision.

An Artistic and Philosophical Journey to the Heart of Korea

"Decoding Korea" is a true philosophical journey through Korean society and its contemporary art. The featured artists – KANG Yiyun, KIM Heecheon, KWON Hayoun, Ram Han, ROOMTONE, PARK Junebum, LEE Yongbaek, LEE Lee-nam, YEOM Ji Hye, and JUNG Yeondoo, accompanied by video archives from Nam June PAIK – use digital arts to express notions of memory and historical contexts unique to their country. These artists, born between the late 1960s and early 1990s, have witnessed Korea's radical transformation, marked by rapid industrialization.

Themes and Technology at the Heart of the Exhibition

The division of the Korean peninsula, rapid industrialization, technological advances, and ecological challenges are among the themes explored in "Decoding Korea". In this immersive journey, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and mapping allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in contemporary Korean culture. The vernissage had place on July 25th, in the presence of the Korean Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. This exhibition is also part of the Cultural Olympiad, an artistic and multidisciplinary program running during the Summer Games until September 8th.
