After hosting the equestrian events of the Paris Olympics, the Château de Versailles invites you to an extraordinary experience with the "Horse in Majesty" exhibition. This exceptional display highlights the horse, an animal that has played a central role in our history.

A Revelatory Exhibition on the Horse

"Horse in Majesty - At the Heart of a Civilization" features a remarkable collection of around 300 works showcasing the various functions of the horse through the ages. You will explore the military and domestic uses of this animal and discover how it influenced mobility from the Renaissance to the early 20th century, leading up to the rise of modern equestrian leisure.

A Journey Through the Château de Versailles

The exhibition is divided into thirteen sections, each located in iconic areas of the Château de Versailles. You will traverse the Salle d’Afrique, the Grand Appartement du Roi, the famous Galerie des Glaces, as well as the apartments of Madame de Maintenon and the Dauphine.

Portraits and Equestrian Festivities

Admire portraits of the favorite horses of princes from the collection of Charles XI of Sweden, along with those of Queen Victoria's Arabian horses. The exhibition highlights the significance of horses in European courts and the role of equestrian festivities as symbols of luxury and prestige.

Anatomical Studies of the Horse

In addition to the social roles of the horse, the exhibition includes a section dedicated to its anatomical study, featuring original drawings by Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Verrocchio.
